Find a coffee table that fits your room size, meets your essential needs, enhances your color theme, and accents your decor. You don’t want cups of hot coffee on the floor where a small child could step in them and get burned. People are less likely to spill the coffee if it is on a coffee table to begin with.
If you often have guests, a higher one might be more suited, because everyone will be able to reach their cup. A rule of interior design says that the height of the coffee table should be about the same height (or not less than five inches lower than) the couch. Ideal length is two thirds of the couch. However, no rule is set in stone. Depending on your tastes and the rest of the room, you can choose what ever size and color coffee table you wish.
The style, shape and size of the table should take into account how the room is decorated (or how you intend to decorate it). Some specialists recommend choosing the table first, searching for the one that we love and the one that best stimulates our imagination, then, depending on it to choose the rest of the furniture.
Seems like the modern set of people have gotten away from the complementary our parents and grandparents knew as necessities. It was unheard of not to have a coffee table next to the sofa for the last generation. Everyone had end tables and a center table for coffee a decade ago. Where did they go?
